The Fair Housing Act is a law of this kind, which was passed by Congress early in 1968. The primary purpose of the Act is to eliminate all forms of discrimination to citizens wishing to rent or to buy a house, or because of other factors such as caste, creed, economic status, color and even gender. Basically, this law is an extension of a thought process that has evolved in the 19th century and give an equal chance to all the possibilities of accommodation are concerned. At this point, it is most popular open housing.In the United States of America, there are laws which seek to eliminate all forms of discrimination up society. In such a case, housing is no different.
Currently, the law is in force in all states and is strictly enforced. Housing and Urban Development Department is primarily responsible for maintaining law and that all complaints relating to such discrimination is normally taken into account by the department. He has more than fifty offices across the country and is supported by more than five hundred staff.
The law has a story to make it. During the 1950s, it was felt that equal opportunities should be available to all, as far as housing is concerned. This led to the formation of a body, which took on the powerful lobby of the real estate industry, which tend to discrimination as the sale of houses have been affected. While this dialogue had no effect, it tended to open a debate on housing equity. Instead of passing laws to that effect, the question was to the corridors of power trying to be swept under the carpet. But on 28 August 1963, there was a huge demonstration by the Seattle public demand fair housing rights. This led to the desired effect. The Committee on Human Rights in Seattle recommended an injunction against the discriminatory policies in housing.
Different applications and a number of events later, the government has finally woken up to the fact that housing is one of basic human needs and can not be discriminated against based on any criteria. Thus was born the Fair Housing Act of 1968.
A look at the history of mankind shows that housing has always been the victim of discrimination, in particular by pressure groups campaigning for caste settlements and economic groups. These types always find excuses to live with their own brothers or in the same class, the gap or the poor classes of society neglected. It is high time that these old thoughts are banished from society and the unit be adopted for a better society, not affected by caste, creed or economic class divisions.
